Root Canal Therapy

Root CanalRoot Canal Therapy, formally known as a pulpectomy, is an endodontic treatment performed by a dentist that removes infection or inflammation from the pulp chamber inside your tooth.

The two most common causes of infection or inflammation in the pulp chamber of your tooth are dental cavities and fractured or broken teeth.

When a dental cavity and fractured or broken teeth are left untreated bacteria that lives in saliva can cause an infection that can kill or damage the pulp inside your tooth, ultimately giving you an abscess.  An infected or abscessed tooth will never heal on its own and will worsen if left untreated.  Symptoms when Root Canal Therapy is needed are:

  1. A toothache.
  2. Sensitivity to hot, cold, sweet or sour substances.
  3. Swelling or inflammation around your tooth.
  4. A consistent bad taste in your mouth.
  5. Constant bad breathe.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms please call to schedule an appointment with Dr. Dhayni at (586)-558-8200 or email us at info@warrendentistry.com.  Our office is located at 30205 Schoenherr Rd, Suite E, Warren, Michigan 48088.  Dr. Dhayni is a certified dentist that provides general and cosmetic dental services in the Metro Detroit Michigan Area.

At your first appointment Dr. Dhayni will examine your teeth and take x-rays.  He will diagnose the cause of your toothache and recommend treatment.  If Root canal therapy is Dr. Dhayni’s recommended treatment, the severity of your infection will determine the length of treatment.  A root canal procedure involves removing the inflamed or infected pulp tissue, cleaning and reshaping the canal inside the tooth then filling and sealing the tooth.  Dr. Dhayni will use local anesthesia to numb the area near the tooth to reduce pain.

If you have an abscessed tooth and/or need a crown, chances are, root canal therapy will require more than one visit to see Dr. Dhayni.  In some cases, Dr. Dhayni will medicate inside the tooth or prescribe an antibiotic before filling and sealing the tooth.  If so, a temporary filling is placed in the tooth to prevent further infection between visits.  At your next appointment, Dr. Dhayni will fill and seal your tooth and in most instances, a dental crown is recommended.

A dental crown is needed after a root canal because the inner pulp of the tooth is removed containing all the nerves and blood vessels, therefore reducing and sometimes removing the blood supply of the tooth.  When the blood supply is reduced, the tooth becomes brittle, weak and susceptible to cracked tooth syndrome.  Also, the center of the tooth is removed leaving all the support to the sides of your tooth.

Root Canal Therapy costs approximately $600.00. The cost of a Root Canal depends on your extend of infection or inflammation and if you need restorative treatment such as a dental crown. We have various payment options and financing is available for those who qualify.  Dr. Dhayni uses the latest, most modern technology such as DIAGNOdent, digital x-ray technology and intraoral camera to provide the highest quality services to his patients.
