Nutrition & Health

Nutrition and health play and important role in keeping your teeth and gums healthy and strong.  You should keep in mind that having a balanced diet, limiting certain foods and how frequent you eat and when you eat are nutrition and health issues that relate to keeping your teeth and gums healthy and strong.

Foods that your should limit include sugary fatty or starchy foods such as candy, pop, chips, etc.  These foods increase the natural bacteria that lives in your mouth and causes a chemical reaction that produces acid forming plaque.  If the acid forming plaque is left on your teeth or not removed, it will eat away the enamel and sometimes the dentin of your teeth.  Essentially bad breath, tooth decay, dental cavities, periodontal gum disease and tooth loss may occur.

How frequent you eat and when you eat play a big role in keeping your teeth and gums healthy and strong.  If you eat many meals throughout the day, your teeth are exposed to increased plaque causing bade breath, tooth decay, dental cavities and periodontal gum disease.  It is best to eat 3 balanced diet meals a day. Also, when you do eat sugary, fatty or starchy foods, it is best to eat them with your 3 balanced diet meals a day.

Having a balance diet also play a role in maintaining healthy teeth and gums.  A balanced diet composed of the correct serving amounts of fruits and vegetables, complex carbohydrates, diary products and lastly meat, poultry and fish is great for boosting your body’s immune system.  As a result, you are less susceptible to oral disease.
